| Harmony Ai Powers was born on September 1, 2006 at
Scripps Medical Center in La Jolla California after a very quick labor.
( btw “Ai” means “love” in Japanese ) Michiko’s water broke at 11:55 PM, just after falling asleep. We immediately drove to the hospital because she had been 3-4 cms dilated for the last three weeks. We checked in at 1:00 AM and Michiko was already 7 cms dilated. By 2:30, she was 9.5 cms and very ready. Michiko gave birth at 2:52 AM... less than 2 hours from the time we checked into the hospital. No one in the delivery room was ready. In fact, our doctor almost missed the birth entirely...but arrived just in time as Michiko took a deep breath and Harmony’s head started to crown. With one final deep breath- Harmony was almost all the way out and Michiko reached over and pulled the baby out the rest of the way on her own and pulled her up onto her chest... just amazing. Harmony then immediately started to breast feed, even before the cord was cut. It all happened in a matter of 20 minutes. See Harmony’s gallery here. Michiko decided early on in the pregnancy that she wanted to have a natural birth. We attribute her quick labor and wonderful experience to both Michiko’s overall great outlook in life and her choice to use Hypnobirthing. We hired a wonderful Dula who specialized in Hypnobirthing and she walked Michiko through the entire process. She was with us before, during and after the birth. Shira- thank you so much for everything! You made this such an enjoyable experience. We stayed at Scripps for two days and the care was just wonderful. We contemplated to come home after one day, but because this is our first and because the care was so good, we decided to take advantage of the entire stay. We arrived home on Sunday and Harmony is just amazing. We are so lucky to have her in our lives. |
